Australia to US Shoe Size
Australian footwear can use different conventions by category and brand, so identify whether the product chart is UK-like, US-like, or measurement-based first.
Label comparison, not a foot-length chart. JP/CM is a printed shoe size label; it is not the length of your foot measured with a ruler. For a measured foot length in cm or inches, open the footwear maker's separate Foot Length or Heel-to-toe chart to choose a size. The US/UK/EU references here are approximate and vary by brand.

Australia to US: identify the retailer's labeling system
A shoe sold in Australia does not automatically carry a separate 'AU' numeric scale. For example, Nike Australia's men's size guide labels its adult shoe rows explicitly as US Men; a Nike Australia listing marked US Men's 9 is already US Men's 9.
For a different Australian maker, determine whether the product uses UK, US, EU or its own chart before converting. There is no defensible universal 'AU 9 → US X' rule based on country alone.
How to use the general reference chart on this page
The table above compares approximate US men, US women, UK, EU and JP/CM printed shoe-label references. It does not provide a direct country-specific size column. The brand-specific example above supplies a checked local-label answer; confirm it against the actual product chart before buying.
Keep foot length measured from heel to longest toe separate from CM/JP or millimeter numbers printed as shoe size labels. Those may be different quantities even when both contain the unit cm or mm.
How this guidance is checked
These sources support the measurement method and help check real-world variation. They are not presented as one universal brand-size table.
- ISO 19407:2023 — Footwear — Sizing — Conversion of sizing systems — International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Measurement-first footwear methodology and the limitation that cross-system conversions are guidance rather than guaranteed fit.
- Men's Footwear Size Chart — Nike. Manufacturer cross-check showing that foot length, labeled CM values, width, and brand-specific sizing conventions are distinct concepts.
- Footwear Size Guide — adidas. Manufacturer cross-check across heel-to-toe length and US, UK, EU, and Japan-labeled footwear sizes.
- Men's shoe size chart — Nike Australia. Australian Nike retailer's footwear chart labels its adult rows as US men's sizes; country is not a size system.
