US to UK clothing: a concrete chart-row example
In this site's illustrative women's clothing table, the US 8–10 row corresponds to UK 12–14 and EU 38–40, with example bust 34.5–38 inches, waist 28–30.5 inches and hips 37.5–40.5 inches. This is a range-based table, not a precise conversion of a single US label.
Other manufacturers may pair the same US and UK numbers with a different EU label or measurement interval. For instance, Calvin Klein's published size guide is organized by garment type; use the actual product chart for a purchase.
Confirm which measurement limits the garment
For a fitted top, begin with bust; for trousers, waist and hip are more important. A US-to-UK number match alone cannot decide between two sizes when measurements fall across different rows.
Compare the product's dimensions and intended ease, then select the UK size supported by that manufacturer's chart.
How this guidance is checked
These sources support the measurement method and help check real-world variation. They are not presented as one universal brand-size table.
- ISO 8559-2:2025 — Size designation of clothes — Primary and secondary dimension indicators — International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Clothing methodology: size designation should be based on defined body measurements rather than assuming universal retail labels.
- ISO 8559-3:2018 — Methodology for body measurement tables and intervals — International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Clothing methodology: body measurement tables are population- and interval-based rather than one universal brand-independent chart.
- Ladies Size Guide — H&M. Cross-check for women’s US/UK/EU clothing labels and bust, waist, and hip body measurements.
- Women's Clothing and Underwear Size Charts — Calvin Klein. Second-brand cross-check for women’s pants, dresses, outerwear, and the variation in numeric sizes at similar body measurements.
