UK to US Clothing Size
Find the body-measurement row first, then read the UK and US labels from the same line.

UK to US clothing: read the shared row in reverse
The site's women's UK 16–18 example appears alongside US 12–14 and EU 42–44. The same illustrative row lists bust 37.5–40 inches, waist 30.5–32.5 inches and hips 40.5–43.5 inches.
This is an example of locating a row from a known UK label, not a promise that every UK 16 piece equals one US number. A brand may use different body measurements or EU grading.
Choose the US size for the actual garment
Check bust, waist and hip instead of trusting the printed UK number alone. For fitted dresses or tops, the largest limiting body measurement can decide which neighboring size to try first.
If the brand publishes its own UK/US conversion chart, prefer its product-specific row; do not derive a universal numeric offset from this generic table.
How this guidance is checked
These sources support the measurement method and help check real-world variation. They are not presented as one universal brand-size table.
- ISO 8559-2:2025 — Size designation of clothes — Primary and secondary dimension indicators — International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Clothing methodology: size designation should be based on defined body measurements rather than assuming universal retail labels.
- ISO 8559-3:2018 — Methodology for body measurement tables and intervals — International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Clothing methodology: body measurement tables are population- and interval-based rather than one universal brand-independent chart.
- Ladies Size Guide — H&M. Cross-check for women’s US/UK/EU clothing labels and bust, waist, and hip body measurements.
- Women's Clothing and Underwear Size Charts — Calvin Klein. Second-brand cross-check for women’s pants, dresses, outerwear, and the variation in numeric sizes at similar body measurements.
