Measure around the waist where the waistband will sit, then use the nearest table row.

Example: start with a measured 34-inch waist

At 34 inches in this site's general pants chart, the men's waist label is 34 with an EU 50 example. The women's columns on that same row show US 14–16 and EU 44–48 ranges. These are separate, approximate starting references, not interchangeable labels for one person.

Before using either range, decide whether the 34 inches describes your body at the intended waistband position or a pair of trousers laid flat. A product's actual size chart determines which number matters.

What to do if waist and hip suggest different pants sizes

Use the waist row to narrow the search, then check hips, rise and whether the waistband stretches. For close-fitting or non-stretch pants, the limiting hip measurement can matter more than the nearest waist label.

The generic row does not select an inseam or leg shape. Choose those separately from the product's listed measurements.
