Rigid denim and stretch denim behave differently
A rigid 100% cotton jean can require more ease than a high-stretch denim at the same labeled waist. That is why a waist conversion should be paired with the fabric composition and fit description.
If you are between rows, check whether the brand expects the fabric to relax with wear or recover strongly after washing.
